review 1: I became very absorbed by the story of three of these four friends. I won't be a spoiler about the fourth friend except to say that she is part of the wheel around which the other friends and the story evolves. I was impressed with the distinct voices of the friends, and how very different their individual lives were. The author demonstrated a wonderful sense of humor, and a great eye for detail. That said the character of Jo didn't work for me, nor her life and circumstances. This did not detract from my enjoying the book, but I did have a tendency to compartmentalize each woman's story and, in my mind, Jo became marginalized. That said I think the talented Lisa Verge Higgins did a good job of giving the reader a view of four women's friendship...never perfect, but defi... morenitely solid and enduring.
review 2: This book was not exactly what I expected, but I really liked it and plan to recommend it to friends. I loved all of the stories and couldn't help but recognize each of the women in myself and my friends. I loved the way that even though Rachel's character is dead at the beginning of the story she is very present in the entire book.My favorite story in the group was Jo and Rachel's daughter. There were times in the story when I just wanted to cry. The scene between them in the toystore just broke my heart. I loved the way it which they were forced to find their own way and in the end the fact that there was no perfect healing, but understanding about life's truths.I recognize Kate in so many women I know and that really made me think about what we think we see in our friend's lives versus what is truly there.I know that I was supposed to fall in love with Sam and Sarah immediately, but I couldn't help but be sad by the turn of events with Colin. I wanted him to be perfect and for it to be a real triangle, but I understand why it had to be written the way it was.I look forward to reading this book again with my book club. less

Higgins serves up a splendid book that all women should read! Perhaps men as well:-)

had some very meaty items in here and some big fluff but it worked for my mindset :-)
