review 1: Well done. Wingate does an excellent job telling the frame story : editor living in the big city trying to come to terms with both family and family history. As well as the in set story: Sarra the mystery girl (witch? magical?) on the run from abusive men who would buy and sell her teams up with Rand the visiting scientist from back east. Will the gang search them out? Will Rand's elite background keep them apart? Will Sarra's father come to claim her? I enjoyed the two stories and the way they were brought together in the plot. Wingate also gives a shout out to librarians everywhere when Jen decides to go to the library to find the answer to her questions. Teachers are also valued highly in the frame story. review 2: This is one of those books that you could not put down and once you reached the end you wished it had about 1000.00 pages!! So well written I felt as if I could visualize the characters themselves and I felt all the emotions conveyed by the story. Congrat;s to Lisa Wingate for a wonderful Appalachian story. Look forward to readying more of her books and hope that she writes more stories related to our heritages and Appalachian regions! less
