review 1: I was thrilled that this free short story came out. It's a companion to the new book "Firebug" by Lish McBride, one of my tippy-top favorite authors who is simply not famous enough for the amount of talent she has. You should read her books. They are F-U-N-N-Y! If you happen to love snarky fantasy, they are amazing. Read them. But I haven't read Firebug quite yet, so maybe I'm a hypocrite. I can't quite remember if Firebug JUST came out or is ABOUT to come out. I absolutely will, though. Pinky swear. This book introduce me to the world of the heroine - a firestarter indebted to a mafia-style vampire who uses her as one of her enforcers. It's a hidden world of mixed up fantasy, and this story features some witches in a gingerbread house who are behind paying their protecti... moreon money to the vampire. Twisted, a bit dark, and a very creative take on the fairy tale. Liked the story, loved the characters.
review 2: Burnt Sugar is a prequel to Firebug (I think), but it can be read as a short story without reading Firebug. Unless you are a Buffy or Supernatural fan, you would not consider Burnt Sugar to be an appropriate story for the holidays. I bought the story, but it is available to read on Tor.com... the cover is so gorgeous that I wanted it on my Kindle. Ava is a firebug, and she does what she does best, burn things. less

This was a great introduction for an interesting series. I might even check out the first book! :)

Really delightful in a dark, twisted way. Would read more about these characters.
