review 1: Took me a couple of chapters to get going with this book as I have not read any of Byrski's books before, but I really enjoyed the rest of the book. The main thing I loved was the weaving of themes through the book. There were phrases that took my breath away e.g. the opening of chapter 25 "Melbourne aches under the burden of the heat and the acrid smoke from fires....". Thought it captures that so well and could interchange Adelaide or Sydney. Will read all her books from now on.
review 2: I loved this. A great holiday read that centres on a group of former women's libbers now in their 70's and evaluating their lives and loves. They all get caught up in a new campaign to prevent the sexualisation of young girls and the focus on looks for women. It's the story
... moreof their relationships with each other/themselves and their families. The characters are not quite rounded enough and there are "housewifely" moments throughout but it was all forgiven as it's a great read. I would love another of her books for my next holiday!! less

A light read. I think I would have appreciated it more if I were about 10 years older.
