review 1: 3.5 StarsI mainly give these 3 stars because the story kept me interested. I wanted to know how things were going to end and play out. Also, some of the secondary characters were interesting and fun. I'd like to see them explored more in a sequel. Particularly Cesar and Assaka. But Mandy ... Oh, Mandy. Where to begin. This was one book where I literally could not stand the heroine. Since most of the book is told in her POV that made this book laborious at time. Mandy was the typical blonde, air-headed, vain, self-centered model type. As someone who used to model, I found the portrayal worthy of an eye-roll. Mandy had no redeeming qualities at all. There wasn't much development either. She remained vain, vapid, and selfish until the end. And I got so sick of hearing about h... moreow gorgeous she was. It was pretty much the only thing she had going for her. Oh, and how she could get any man she wants but is insulted by Akkadi spurning her. Newsflash, honey, not everyone wants you. For a book targeted toward women, this was such a huge turnoff and I had a hard time identifying with this woman at all. While she annoyed, Akkadi intrigued. As a hero he was flawed but noble and sexy. I love a rigid man with passion boiling just under the surface. He had way more dimension than Mandy and made the story likeable. The plot was a bit confusing at times, as far as the worldbuilding and background of the futuristic society. There were a few plot holes as well. The most glaring to me was the fact that Akkadi's mother was supposed to be from the human world, brought 10,000 into the future. yet it is stated several times that she came to Akkadi's father with a huge dowry. Where did this dowry come from? Her human father on earth 10,000 in the past??? Anyway, those little things had little bearing on the story. And while the characters behaved foolishly at times, the story progressed nicely. I appreciated the ending more and wish the pace had been that way throughout. The action and suspense in the end gave it that extra half star, that plus the fact that I liked Akkadi. If this book had a sequel, I would likely read it, as the fate of the villain was kind of left hanging out there. Plus I'd be interested to see what happened to Cesar. That said, this was my first read by Lizzy Ford and she has a reputation for being a great writer. After reading other reviews, I was left with the sense that this wasn't her best work. I look forward to maybe checking out others she has written to get a true sense of who she is as an author.
review 2: I loved this book. So many things imagined in this version of the future are so freakin cool. At first i thought this was going to be some boring alien type of freak book however i was so very wrong. I loved every bit of it. The sex was so steamy but it wasn't too much like fifty shades which i'm soooo glad because i like reading about hot sex but i can't stand brutality. This book was so perfect and i hope there will be another book coming out. I want more! less
