review 1: Actually gave this book more patience than I thought I would, but in the end it got to me. Pastiche heroine, angsty belaboured and oh why do we have to hear about this again. Then the whole, oh, the serial killer wears a mask, and I just happen to be an anthropologist who did research in the tribe that wears these masks and oh wait, I was an anthropologist, but really I'm a forensic scientist, but oh no, I am heading a criminal investigation. Sorry.
review 2: This story opens with a young girl at a fair, and you know right away she's in trouble. A predator obsessed with the jungles of New Guinea and its cannibalistic lore is stalking young girls in Indiana and killing them before ritualistically dismembering them. FBI agent Christine Prusik, a seasoned but fra... moregile character, has experience with this tribe and follows her gut instincts and attention to detail to find the killer before he strikes again. Richards did his research in forensics and criminal justice and often speaks with the wisdom of the ages. This is Richards' debut novel. With its scary twists and tense turns, I highly recommend it. less
