review 1: I would have awarded 5 stars, but whereas part 1 of the book is rather a collection of - indeed - excellently written short stories, which could also stand alone, the truly novelesque part is part 2, which is not only fun to read, but also full of action. Interesting: whereas part one is an assembly of views of (mostly) men on an illegal migrant from Tunesia, who "lands" in Berlin trying to find her son, part two narrates the story of her flight and arrival and life from the perspective of the (female) victim, Ines. Lloyd Jones is much better at telling the story from Ines' perspective.
review 2: This novel is told form multiple view points as the woman known as Ines passes through Europe from Sicily to Berlin in search of her son, who was taken from her when h
... moree was just a few days old. The woman was a refugee from Africa, who caught a boat to Europe, as she works her way north in search of her stolen son. Each narrative adds more to the story and to our impression on 'Ines' as she does what is necessary to travel north. less
