review 1: Rowdy was a typical alpha male, but I do have to say the scenes with girls hitting on him started to get old. It was hard for him to recoup in my eyes after the BJ scene. I get that his sex appeal was off the charts, but there's a fine line when guys start acting like God's gift to women. He didn't brag about it, but his overconfidence was a bit much at times. I thought Avery, on the other hand, needed a backbone. As a fellow natural redhead, I'm disgusted. Ha! It was only at the end that it was even mentioned that guys flirted with her at the bar. Anyway, that aside, the plot with her ex and stepfather was so choppy and silly. The motive behind the stalking was just ridiculous. It seemed that the romance story was written and then the stalker mystery was thrown in las... moret minute. There is no mystery or surprise since you suspect who is behind it all after the luncheon. And how many times does it need to be mentioned there's a BMW staking out the bar, oh, and they ran the plates, oh, now it's an Audi. . whatever. We know where the car came from for crying out loud.
review 2: Sexy over-protective womanizer/bad boy with a hard life in the bad part of town who has women throwing themselves at him, even knowing it’s not going to get them anything but a couple of hours of sex, can’t get the woman he craves. Rowdy had recently bought a bar and changed it to something friendlier, pushing out the drugs and prostitution. He’d been smart enough to move Avery, a waitress from the old bar into the head bartender’s position, and with her help has turned the place into a moneymaker. Unfortunately she keeps turning his advances down. Avery is trying to hide a couple of secrets and isn’t ready for anyone to know anything about her, until the trouble she’d been running from finds her. She’s also in love with Rowdy and is willing to take him even knowing there’d be no future for them.It was difficult for me at first to actually like Rowdy and Avery. Both their thoughts and actions toward the other were a turn off until the two get closer and we got to know them. The more I learned about Rowdy, the more I liked him. Avery took a little longer. Definitely a nice person, but her she comes across as somewhat of a martyr with her love for him but just waiting for him to tell her to hit the road.I don’t often read a flat-out romance anymore, so this was a nice treat. Have some tissues handy. On the whole I enjoyed the story, the romance, the characters and the situations enough that I’ve already purchased the first book in the series, Run the Risk. I want to get to know some of these characters better. less
