review 1: I was quite anxious to get started reading this book after I read the first one - Run the Risk - as I was curious to know about Alice's history and what secrets she was hiding. The book was good. I never got bored with it, but it also never really grabbed my attention for long periods of time. It was very similar to the first one. Big, muscular, TALL guy, small, petite, scared lady in need of protection. Guy and girl get together and in a matter of days, fall in love and decide to get married. Real life doesn't work like that, and if it does, you take the chance of your marriage ending in divorce. Since the series goes over four books, it would have been much more believable to have the marriage plans come out much later, but instead every book has to get wrapped up... more neat and tidy. I wasn't okay with Pepper and Logan's quick decision to get married, but at least I could say yeah, I could see it happening. But then the same outcome in this book too? It just doesn't fit. And I'm kind of aggravated that the women are all petite women. Can't some be tall themselves?Anyway, the book was good, but we never did delve into Alice's past as much as I would have expected, or even as much as I would have liked. I felt like the book had a lot of unnecessary parts in it, meant to make it longer. Having said all that, I will most likely finish out the series, though not right away.
review 2: Summary:Alice took down a brutal human trafficker and now is terrified of becoming a victim. Because of this she survives off her instincts and hiding from her past. Detective Reese has other plans for Alice. He wants to figure her out and learn more about her. He's determined to get to the bottom of all her secrets. Unfortunately, the two of them get in a little deeper than either one of them expected. It seems things get a little hot and heavy when corruption and possibly death is on the line.My thoughts:Lori Foster has a style that is all her own and I've been a fan for a very long time. She's spicy, mysterious, and funny. I've never been bored reading one of her stories. The characters are always described enough that they have distinct personalities, the romance is always intriguing enough to make me want them to end up together, and the mysteries usually keep me guessing and rooting for the main characters. This is a classic Foster and fans like me are not going to be disappointed. less
