review 1: I started reading Lorraine Heath with her Scandalous Gentlemen of St James series. WRONG!! Definitely start with the SCOUNDRELS OF ST JAMES if you care at all about continuity. The plots and relationships make SO MUCH MORE SENSE! :)I liked the story and romance between Olivia and Jack. It's a "forced proximity" story (catnip alert for Smart Bitch Sarah!) and it's done quite well. There's a kid in the story (Olivia's son Henry) who's lovely and not at all an obnoxious plot moppet. Olivia screeched a little too much in this story for me (Heath had a serious writers tic with the word "screech" and Olivia,) but hot DAMN I loved Jack's story and growth. He's so rough and tumble and blunt and and and ... yeah. All the Good Stuff.
review 2: God knows I can never resi
... morest an unapologetic scoundrel with so much love to give he doesn't even know it.This is the tale of Jack Dodger, and my word what a tale it is! I loved this book so much, but then Jack had already promised to have such brilliant hidden depths I wasn't surprised.I loved that Henry wasn't entirely a plot moppet, and his growing adoration of Jack as well attempts to imitate him were cute as hell :D He was also important in showing Jack that actually he could care about things without completely ruining them and that there things in life more important than money, as well as showing Olivia that she could trust him and that he hid his goodness deep deep deep down while attributing all his care for Henry down to his self-serving nature.I love how protective Jack is of what's his, and of the young boys he saw himself in and tried to prevent similarly awful things happening to :) I love all the cute outings he planned for Henry and Olivia. But wow I sure as hell wish Lovingdon hadn't turned out to be Jack's father because my GOD did that make things weird. The reason I didn't dock a star for that though is how LH acknowledges how weird it makes things and doesn't just ignore them. I've probably mentioned before how I loves that she did that in book 1 too. At least she acknowledges the weirdness (not to mention illegality) of him technically marrying his stepmother. And she also brings up his stepson being his half-brother. Tbh I thought it would bother me more than it did, but it just made me laugh for about 10 minutes. And it was good to have Olivia acknowledge that even in the slight chance the truth would come out, she would stand by him regardless and be proud to do so :) I also loved that Lovingdon's youthful idiocy wasn't glossed over or easily forgiven (because dear LORD how could they be) but instead Jack and Olivia chose instead to see it as all the bad things happening to Jack ultimately leading him to his HEA with her.Again, we got a beautifully-written epilogue that left me with a *happy sigh* and made me look forward to Frannie, Jim and Will's stories. less

This story is too eew. A man marrying his father's widow. Just Eew. But story was intriguing.

Dodger is a bit too much of an A hole in the beginning for my taste.
