review 1: This was a good story overall, although a little stilted in places, and there were a couple of points which were left unexplained - minor to the plot, but they were a niggle - for example, at the end of one chapter, Simonsen answers his phone, and shouts "That's a lie!", but we are never told who he is speaking to or what he is claiming is a lie. This had no apparent bearing on the plot, but it stuck in my mind and left me wondering about who it was - the journalist, someone at the station - and it distracted me slightly from the storyline. Admittedly, this could have been a fault of translation, but if so, it needs to be corrected!

The mystery was okay I guess, and I obviously enjoy crime stories set in Scandinavia, but there was a choppiness here that really took me out of the flow of the narrative. There were also a number of minor storylines that felt completely superfluous. less
