My Sunday Cup Of Tea: Forbidden books

“My Sunday Cup Of Tea” is a weekly meme I came up with where the subject will just be something pretty random that will make my blog feel more like me. I’m going to post some thoughts, a weekly wrap up, what to expect from the next week if there is something exciting etc.

Happy Sunday!

Another week has gone by so fast; I swear, time just seems to fly by and without even knowing it, it’s already October!

The weather here is still kinda nice, we’re having some cloudy days but I swear it’s even hotter than when it’s sunny… which is saying A LOT. It’s just sooo freaking humid that sometimes I feel like a fish breathing water instead of air *ughh*.

Anyways, aside from the weather, I’m super excited because next week I’m going to Virginia for fall break. I mean, considering that two days ago I still didn’t have a plan I’m pretty happy about it.

I’ll hopefully be able to travel a bit more during the winter break but we’ll see.

One of the things I was so excited about when coming to the U.S. was that most of my favourite authors live here and I’m desperately looking for “book festivals” in my area. I would LOVE to go to one and just meet some authors and chat (if you know some good ones feel free to comment below, I’d love your opinion). It sucks that I don’ really have that much time to go around but still, I’d love to go to one.

I’m thinking about doing a Top Ten Tuesday soon, because I loved all those lists (I just don’t always have the time to write unfortunately).

By the way, I’m already at my second cup of coffee and it’s not even 11 a.m. (well, it’ll probably be later when I post this but yeah). The reason is that I have a lot of work to do and just slept 2 hours tonight because yesterday I started reading Perfect Chemistry by Simone Elkeles and GUYS, I FREAKING LOVED THAT BOOK! It was just soo good that I couldn’t put it down and without knowing it, it was already 6 a.m..

I don’t really care though, it was totally worth it; sure the story might be a bit of a cliché but I swear it’s just written so well and I completely fell in love with the story and the author’s style.

Funny story, I actually found this book and decided to read it because one of my favourite author shared an article saying how this book got banned from a school library for its content, and I just felt like that if people went the extra mile to make sure you couldn’t read something, you should definitely read it because it’s probably going to be worth it. Now, I’m not saying that every book is suitable for every age, but I feel like from banning something you’re just making sure more people are going to hear about it and want to read it.

Besides, it’s not just the fact that I don’t like people telling me what I can or cannot do, it’s that I really don’t like when people don’t give you a chance to build your own opinion about something. People can surprise you at times, you should try and give them a chance.

I remember that when I was in middle school vampire’s books were the main thing and I remember seeing in a book market one of the books of the vampire diaries series; now, I don’t know if you have in mind the cover but the one I was looking at was black with red on the outside of the pages. Obviously I fell in love with that book and I desperately wanted to buy it and read it. Of course, my mum said no because she felt like it wasn’t appropriate for my age. That was when I decided I HAD to have that book. Needless to say, I managed to buy it without my mum knowing about it (yeah I felt bad about lying to her but I told her eventually). I devoured that book but I always had to hide it behind another book to make sure she couldn’t spot the red pages. I felt like Harry when he was reading books from the Forbidden Section. Best idea ever.

This was just to say, read whatever it is you like and always rely on your own opinion first because, why should others know better than you what you like?

That’s all for this Sunday,

Bye xx
