review 1: I really enjoyed Erdrich's collection of short stories, almost as much as I enjoy her novels. Many of the short stories in this collection I had read before as chapters in her novels; I enjoy how these stories are strong enough to function as both an independent story and a chapter in the novel. Erdrich is a very talented writer, using a variety of narrative techniques in the collection. I look forward to reading more of her works,
review 2: This one was okay, but the short stories were a little disjointed. Many were written as a basis for a novel, bits and pieces that could be made into something else, which I think made the endings feel a little more abrupt in some cases than they otherwise would. Interesting how many of the characters were interwoven throu... moregh different stories, but not interesting enough to make me read the entire book. Maybe I need to read one of her full-length novels - only book I've read before this from her was "Blue Jay's Dance." less
