review 1: I expected to find recipes for the kind of food I wish for late at night. And some of it is there: pork fried rice, pad Thai, deep dish pizza. But when there are all these gourmet recipes for things I've never heard of, much less had my family clamor for me to put on the table, I'm very puzzled by the book. Aveglemono? Endive and date salad with Parmesan? Really? And I can see that if her point is to encourage home cooking for the family, blueberry pancakes and meatloaf are good standards -- but they aren't what I want in a make-restaurant-food-yourself cookbook. Clearly Quinn lives in a different food world than most of us. I'd like to try a couple of the ethnic food recipes. But in general I'm very disappointed in this cookbook.
review 2: I ended up giving ... morethis book 5 stars for the uniqueness of this cookbook. I would certainly say the better chunk of the recipes were unique or she gave her own flare to them. As I do with most of my cookbooks, I viewed this from my library first, I have about 2 handfuls of recipes to copy and am seriously considering purchasing it for convenience. That is how many recipes piqued my palate. A better chunk of the recipes seem to have much more of an Asian flare, but she doesn't limit it to there. Frankly, her "Latin" recipes were my favorite. I loved her "well stocked kitchen" suggestions as well. Those really help a novice chef! This is the type of cookbook that I love to "sample" recipes from for my food blog and can't wait to try some of these babies! less
