review 1: I want to give this book 4 stars but I really truly fell in love with two or three of the short stories in the book. The title story "Diving Belle's" is a phenomenal short story that is just eerie and heartbreaking. Lucy Wood is a wonderful author who takes you into the lives of her characters so quickly and you become so absorbed in story that she's weaving. I'm really into magical realism and each story was perfect for the genre. Some stories were a bit to slow for me and one of them just didn't hold my attention like the very first few stories. All in all a great short read.
review 2: I wish I could give this collection of short stories five stars and then an exclamation point! I was wrapped up, enchanted, whisked away to Welsh moors where ghosts and giants,... more mermaids and spirits live amongst humans in a breathtaking way. The writing is simply perfect-- not too affected but instead perfectly measured, mature, and lovely, and the stories are surprising in the best way, some delightful and some sorrowful, but all wonderful. I will definitely return to these stories again. less
