review 1: I almost didn't purchase this book because some of the reviews were so harsh. I'm so glad I tried it anyway. Yes, it is somewhat predictable, but as a reader I am not about the destination, I enjoy the getting there, and for me, this trip was worth it. It does hop back and forth, but I enjoyed that aspect, and unlike other books that have attempted the same, this wasn't difficult to follow. I found the unique perspective of not only the title character, but several others, quite intriguing and they drew me in to caring about them and their multiple plights. It was a quick weekend read that I not only didn't regret, but I enjoyed immensely.
review 2: I so enjoyed this book. The quote from Milan Kundera says it all, “What is this self? It is the sum of everyth... moreing we remember.” An elderly women dealing with Alzheimer’s hears the voice of God the eve of the new millennium. She holds a yard sale, selling all her family possessions. How possessions and memory define us is explored through the character’s reactions to the sale. Excellent read. less
