review 1: This was a really good book! I randomly picked up this book not knowing much about it, and I'm glad I did. It was well written, and covered a number of serious topics that drew me in. I just wish we found out a little bit more at the end... did Holt ever end up telling Marion? (By the way, I totally didn't see that coming somehow) How often did Celi get to see her father, etc. Overall though it was a great book.
review 2: I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I've already gotten the author's other novel from the library! It is amazing to me that we are still facing these race issues, but it many parts of the country it is still very real. Even in fairly integrated communities there are little signs of a deep tradition of separation. I recall very clearly my expe... morerience with my mother who taught me not to be prejudiced changing her tune as soon as the prospect of dating came up. If race relations interest you at all and you can open your imagination up to fiction, this is a very good read. less
