review 1: This was a nice book to listen to passively. It wasn't engrossing but it wasn't terrible either. It had funny moments and the characters were perfect for each other. I wish I had read this book first since I knew who the villain was by reading the second book. I already knew who were behind the bushes since the characters in the second book recounted Annabel and Ross' tale. I laughed at Annabel's nickname. It was kind of cute if the person saying it was endearing. Belly. Ha. The part about Annabel with her head stuck in the dress was also noteworthy. It happens to me when I wear tight dresses and I can commensurate fully. I can also laugh about how absurd it looks and it was just funny imagining the scene. The story follows Annabel, who was raised to be a nun, be married t... moreo Ross. Her elder sister eloped with a stable boy and Annabel took her place to fulfill her parents' contract. Ross and Annabel married with Annabel feeling uncertain. Her training did not extend to wife duties and she was quite clueless in the bedroom as well as outside of it. However, she has a good heart and she won over the people with her personality. She had a fresh take on life, living it with wonder and kindness. It wasn't the grating kindness that heroines often fall under though. It was actually convincing. I cringe everytime a character is automatically loved by everyone because they are just utterly perfect. In this book, Annabel is actually fleshed out. Her kindness fits well with the meekness of her character. She had been raised to think she was inferior but she actually stands up for herself. Ross took a backseat to Annabel's story. He was just there being manly and handsome. He had frustrations with her innocence but he worked around it and they made a good marriage. He was really patient with her and I think they make a perfect good couple. By that I mean they are good and nice people to start with and they make a vanilla marriage. Her sister, who was the spoiled bitch, regretted her actions. She came to the keep to disrupt everyday life. She sought revenge for missing out on what she could have had. She took it out on everyone but mainly Annabel. On the final scene, she flipped out and ended up killing her husband, who was a very nice man. He got stabbed way too many times though. Anyways, the sister cried sanctuary so that she won't be arrested. She had agreed to take the veil thus making the life swap come full circle. The sister will be the nun while Annabel becomes the wife. I thought that was a nice detail to add. This was a nice light story with the main point being comedy. Annabel flounders on life outside of the nunnery and Ross deals with having an innocent wife while having lusty appetites.
review 2: Sometimes I forget that Lynsay Sands writes other stories besides her Argeneau vampire books, which I absolutely love. An English Bride in Scotland was a great historical romance. I totally fell in love with Annabel and Ross. The storyline was great and there were some laugh out loud moments that just made the story exceptional to me. The story was steamy and sweet and the mystery element was great too. I didn't see the truth until close to the reveal. An amazing read as always by Ms. Sands. Finished the story in one sitting and it ended way too fast. I should've read slower :) less
