review 1: Interesting and a bit suspenseful story about family, friendship, women as healers, and how secrets can erode trust and sense of self. This is a first novel and I found the characters' voices a bit uneven, the prose by turns lyrical and clunky, sometimes confusing. Very enjoyable in parts, especially the magical realism, but also a bit off-putting at times. I would definitely read her next book.
