review 1: This is a heart warming selection of short stories of family, friendship, love and loss all featuring residents of Chestnut Street. There is Bucket Maguire the window cleaner who has to make a big sacrifice to protect his son, a group of residents who realise that New Year’s Eve doesn’t have to be lonely. As always, Maeve Binchy brings characters to life in a way that no other author can do and even though they are only short stories you get to know the characters as well as you would do if they were in a full novel.A super read and very very enjoyable.
review 2: This was such a treat, didn't expect that there would be one more book so reading it was a bit bittersweet. Something that's lovely about Maeve's characters is that they exist forever, and pop up
... morein other books. Not only does this surprise me, sometimes my memory's not as clear as I'd like, both with my books and my life, so as she introduces new people, I realize they are familiar but not always from where, kind of like when you look a friend in the face and can't quite come up with their name. Such is the comfort of a Maeve Binchy collection of short stories, instant friends, people you truly would be honoured to number among your closest community. Here are the lives of so many real people, a joy to meet them all. less

Full disclosure: Didn't finish, not because I didn't like it, just wasn't in the mood.
