review 1: This was a free kindle book from Amazon. You never know with those. I thought I'd learned to tell from the cover if the book was going to get too hot and heavy for me, but I was fooled this time. Did a bit of skipping at one or two points. This started out very cliche - guy waking up suddenly and scanning the room - so I was sure I'd be putting it down after a few more pages. But it picked up and had a nice mystery/suspense element. I liked the hero and his family and could tell early on there would be other books told from their points of view. The female got a bit annoying. The writer tried, it seemed, to justify her behavior and got close, but she was still annoying.Maybe someday I'll read the others, but I'm not in a hurry.
review 2: This book was a freebie
... more, so I downloaded it without a second thought. And when all was said and done, I wasn't interested in reading the next installment in the series, like the free first book is supposed to entice you to do. It's not that this book was bad... it was just blah. Nothing really stood out to me in it, the characters didn't really seem all that believable, and I wasn't rushing to finish up this book. It was just OK... a decent mindless read... but it didn't really do anything else for me. less
