Wings in the Night
review 1: The Wings in the Night series by Maggie Shayne is the first vampire series I ever read. I started reading it in high school (over ten years ago) and am really enjoying this installment in the series since it brings back characters from throughout the series. It was very refreshing to be reintroduced to the stories of past characters, especially since I've been reading this series for so long. Maggie Shayne is still one of my favorite paranormal authors!Wow, the ending was a total surprise and I'm glad I have "Twilight Fulfilled" already on my nook so I can continue reading. This really makes me want to reread the entire series!
review 2: Amber Lily and Edge's twins are grown up... James J.W. is the healer, Brigit is the destroyer... James is looking for his
... more purpose, and uses his healing power in secret, and he forgoes all else that is vampireish; Brigit,on the other hand, embraces vampirism and finds the greatest acceptance under Rhiannon. And the DPI, an ex-DPI and dying agent Lester Folsum, and Professor Lucy Lanfair are together for a TV interview. Folsum has written a tell-all about vampires (in a negative point of view), and gives a copy of it to Lanfair. Lanfair has translated portions of a Sumerian tablet - and it ends up that it is a prophecy of the end of vampires unless the twins resurrect Utanapishtim (Sumerian father of vampires). But Folsum is killed at the beginning of the interview, his books is pulled from the publishers... but anti-vampire groups start up and are burning the houses of suspected vampires. Vampires are under attack.and James heals Lucy when she is shot leaving the tv station, and then he rescues her. She can read the tablet that vampires have protected that they believe will tell them more about the prophecy and how to live through it.Lucy is reluctant to help, but pulled to help... James feels that this is his calling, to save his people and raise Utanapishtim ... and in the midst of the chaos, they find they love one another. They do raise Utanapishtim, and he has been conscious these 5,000 years and a bit crazy... he can absorb knowledge by touching an article (and absorbs James' healing gift), he absorbs a copy Folsum's book, and goes on a rampage to kill vampires, believing he must do so to redeem his actions to his god.The story ends with Utanapishtim shooting a 'death bolt' at James, and Lucy jumping in to save him and taking the bolt. James offers and she accepts to convert to vampire. A handful of vampires are left alive, the ones we know and love, and they are going to someone's home in the arctic where they believe they will be safe. the government acknowledges the truth that there are vampires, and humans with the antigen are being rounded up. And it looks like Brigit, the destroyer, will be the savior - she will have to take on Utanapishtim. less
