review 1: At times, I felt frustrated with the main character in this novel. Ballet dancer Joan makes many false moves in love and family life. Her drive for perfection takes her to some cold and discontent places. Her husband Jacob has loved her since childhood, but knows that Joan's heart once and probably still, belongs to a Arslan Rusakov, a top notch ballet star she helped defect to America in 1975. When Joan's only child, her son Harry choses to enter the world of ballet, poor Jacob feels shut out and disappointed. And then when a secret from Joan's past solits wide open, everyone's lives are changed. I loved the immersion into the world of dance. Yes, those scenes astonished me! Every time the author takes us inside any dancer's body, mind and soul, her writing soars. V... moreoila!
review 2: This was a book that my book club at work chose. This is not in my normal genre of reading but I was interested in the story line. This was a good story but I was not sold on the writing. There were time I found myself re reading the sentence to understand what was being said. The book kept my interest and for that I give it a sold 3 stars. Though I did feel like the ending was rushed and left me felling blah. I kept checking to make sure that was truly the end of the story. Not sure if this was the authors intention to lead into another story. less

A very good story about the world of ballet and how it influences the lives of ballet dancers.

I don't particularly care at all about ballet but I couldn't put this down.
