review 1: Hardly great lit, but a fun, quick read nevertheless. Set over a 3 day wedding weekend and a voyeuristic peek into the lives of the bride's family, mostly from perspective of father of the bride. He really is quite awful, I kept waiting for him to be redeemed somehow, but nope. All the characters were mostly pretty one-dimensional come yo think of it. And some of the writing was a bit trite. But overall an easy and not entirely unenjoyable read.
review 2: Here's the lesson I learned from listening to this book--when going on an extended car trip, bring several audio books along. My fault! A friend recommended Seating Arrangements. The immediate family in the book was shallow and dysfunctional. They were devoid of emotional attachment to each other, so how co... moreuld a reader feel anything toward them?There may be some parallels to draw from the lobster scene or the whale scene, and maybe a book club discussion would help me to like it a little, but right now I'd say it's not worth the effort.Second audio book this year that hugely disappointed me.
