review 1: This novel of teen psychics and their trials and tribulations is actually pretty interesting. The foreshadowing is done with a heavy hand but it does lead nicely into the next book in the series. Usually when the foreshadowing is done so heavily it makes me shy away from the next book, but I find myself wondering what is going to happen with the broody character, or how the main female character is going to wind up with the male lead instead of the sidekick she is with now. Nothing is resolved in this book, which makes the next intriguing. With quirky characters, shifting points of views, and amazing insights this is a fairly complex book worth reading.
review 2: Okay, to begin with, I had very high hopes when starting this book because of its good reviews. ... moreSO....the writing of this book took over 150 pages to get used to, which was annoying really. The plot of the story was SO interesting, but when I started reading I became uninterested. When introduced to the psychic aspect and the history behind what Gansey wanted, the book just dragged for me. I then realized it took me 300 pages to actually like the book. So, if it weren't for the last 100 pages, this book would be rated a 1. AND WHAT KIND OF ENDING IS THAT??? It makes me want to read the second book! (UGH!) less

OK.. so I really had a hard time getting into this book. I just didn't understand the whole lay-line thing. I prefer Maggie's book the Scorpio Races much more to this.. I will not continue this series.. I just wasn't interested as much as I wanted to be. I stuck it out because I needed to. Although the characters are interesting I just don't understand the plot. I don't get the whole purpose behind needing to wake this dead guy. I guess it is like the Genie and the magic lamp. Anyways, I would recommend this for people who are interested in the paranormal... the plot is highly creative. Just not for me.

I really enjoyed this book. I had put off reading it until the third book came out thinking it was a trilogy and knowing that once I start reading MS's books I can't stop until I finish the series. Sadly I now have to wait until the final book comes out...I love all the characters in this book, they're multi-dimensional and interesting, you want to know more about them and they're not transparent and simple like a lot of YA characters, there are plenty of surprises with them as well as an interesting plot.
