review 1: Absolutely amazing book, Magnus Mills - you never fail to produce wonderfully surreal and thoroughly enjoyable books. This is (as I interpreted it) a story about the fall of the British Empire - told through an all male character list named after birds (the title prepares us for this). It is a very satirical look on the way Great Brit- I mean, Fallowfields' government rules, with a running slice of cold war interwoven.

It's the story of the incompetent Empire of Greater Fallowfields and its newly appointed council memebers who know nothing of the jobs they've been given, which may nor may not have deep allegorical things to say about the British Empire, who knows.
