review 1: Its a 571 page book, but such a simple page turner that it will be finished much earlier than you would have thought at the start ...The story revolves around life of two bureaucrats, both official and personal .. But above that its a story of how the 'machinary' changes an individual and how an individual fights the machinary ...But after reading it, it somehow won't give a lasting impression and is somewhat shallow ..
review 2: simply awesome work by the great malayattoor. its a must read book for anyone who wants to be a civil servant. this book clearly depicts the transformation of a new IAS officer when he blends into the red tape. it also take us into the family lives of the beaurocrats. the high class external outlook as well as the poor internal family
... moreaffairs. I felt it lacks a little completeness and the book ended suddenly ( even after the book had 570 pages :-P). but compared to the other service stories the best I had read so far. no dragging, definitely a pageturner. less
