review 1: I really enjoyed this well written historical romance. I love reading this genre! I thought it was awesome that the heroine, Cecily, is an academic and interested in scholarly pursuits. I know she had her heart broken in the past but I didn't like the way she deliberately tried to distance herself from Lucas. I loved Lucas, though. He was so sweet and protective, and the way he felt about Cecily made me swoon. I loved that he encouraged her and supported her instead of trying to hold her back. He loved her intelligence instead of resenting it like some other men would which made me love him more.I knew who the killer was quite early on so it didn't come as a surprise when it was revealed which is a bit anticlimactic. I'm very much looking forward to the next ... morebook!
review 2: Debut novel.Interesting characters, absorbing mystery that perhaps took a little too long to wrap up. Good set-up for the next two novels to follow. Some quibbles:- The title didn't really fit the story.- The "let's get it on since we're locked in a room in the building where we've snuck in with a key given to the heroine by someone that we never actually find out who it is and, oh yes, the door becomes mysteriously unlocked after we've climaxed" section.- The villain of the piece. Not difficult to figure out - who else was available? Making it all relate to the heroine's long-dead mother and a barely remembered incident from her childhood? A bit of a stretch.Still I enjoyed it enough that I will continue to read the next two books in the series. less
