review 1: The Time of Aspen Falls was my very first Marcia Lynn McClure book and I literally could not put it down! I loved it!Aspen doesn't really trust extremely handsome men. She thinks that they are all the same... egotistical jerks who are only after one thing. From the first time she sees Rake she knows that he's just like the rest of them but she still enjoys looking at him! ;) Rake hasn't had the best of luck with women either. He has dated in the past but he thinks women are trouble and just not worth it. But when they finally meet each other things slowly start to change... ;)I loved watching Aspen and Rake grow and become closer. Both of them are weary when it comes to the opposite sex and relationships. But the more time they spent together and the more they got to know ... moreeach other they realized not everyone is the same as the ones who hurt them. The love they had for each other just made them perfect together! They are definitely one of my favorite book couples! And can I just say how much I loved the side characters?! From Rake's family to Sean... loved them! And of course we can't forget Gina! She's just awesome! Loved how she was rooting Rake on from the very beginning and helping Aspen get over her weariness of men. And her obsession with UPS men was hilarious! But I loved that she was finally able to find her dream UPS man! It's the little things like this that help make a great book! I loved the HEA... I loved all the kissing... I just loved it all! Grab a copy and read it! ;)
review 2: This was a neat romance story without much "baggage". The story was extremely simple (and, in my humble opinion, too simple) and centered solely around the romance forming between Aspen Falls and Rake Locker. I was first puzzled by the names - who the hell would call their children Aspen or Rake? But Aspen seems to be a popular name in fiction nowadays - "Venus City" also has an Aspen in it. This time a boy, though.Apart from their names, Aspen and Rake were very simple and average. They were nice to read about though not too interesting.I was hooked in the beginning were I somehow felt the story was going to be a bit deeper. The beginning where Aspen's close friend Gina is introduced was actually quite good.Gina and Aspen were sitting in their old apple tree complaining about "real man" disappearing from society. Aspen is actually crushing on a jogger who jogs past her everytime she takes her lunch in the park. The jogger - Rake - seems to turn up wherever Aspen goes and he finally asks her out to dinner.Apart from the overly long build-up of their relationship, The Time of Aspen Falls didn't really have a story. The pacing was a bit off; fast and engaging at the beginning and then slowly becoming lesser and lesser until the book got really boring.I think this is a case of lost opportunity - the book could have been much better. Either more romantic or with more humor in it. In the end, this was an ok book for me. I quite enjoyed the writing style and the characters even though the way the book proceeded wasn't very good. I think I'll try some more of the author's books. less
