review 1: This book takes Deborah and her husband to NYC for their honeymoon. I liked hearing about NY and their activities there, but the 'mystery' aspect kind of sucked. Half of the book was told from Sigrid's perspective, a cop in NYC. This left me wondering why. Is she going to be a character in another book? Sometimes Maron annoys me with her perspective changes. I mean, I just got used to her having Dwight narrate in most books, and now this?
review 2: Three-Day Town reads more like a police procedural/murder mystery than a true cozy, but it was a quick & enjoyable read, none the less. I really liked the characters from Colleton County, North Carolina: Judge Deborah Knott and her husband Deputy Sheriff Dwight Bryant, but NYPD Lieutenant Sigrid Harald, not so
... moremuch (probably due to the fact that I know so little about her backstory). I really believe that I would have enjoyed this story more if I had read the previous Deborah Knott and the Sigrid Harald mysteries; knowing the characters backgrounds and motivations is always helpful. I look forward to reading the first of the Deborah Knott cozy mysteries, Bootlegger's Daughter and possibly the first in the Sigrid Harald's series One Coffee With to get to know these two women better. With any book series (but especially with cozy mysteries), familiarity does not breed contempt, it breeds comfort. less
