review 1: I used to keep up with a list of Mystery Authors that I liked. I haven't kept up with it for a while, but this was one of my favorites on the list. Margaret Maron writes interesting stories and I like her characters. The volume was laying around the house and I read (perhaps reread) it. I enjoyed it a lot. If you haven't read Margaret Maron add this series to your light reading/beach reading list. Light but very good!
review 2: A fun light read; the story and characters are engaging and the plot moved along briskly for the most part. Knock half a star off the rating if you don't live in North Carolina or have never been to Wilmington, NC, since there is a level of detail about Wilmington and NC that a nonresident may find tedious. Ms. Maron could have use... mored the services of a good editor on this book as the pacing and level of detail is somewhat uneven; pace especially drags when the story is told from the detectives' point of view rather than Judge Knott's. less
