review 1: I loved the premise of this book. Weaving folktale, fact and a lot of imagination is my cup of tea. I loved that Margi Preus was sparked by a diary from her own great-grand-mother. I had a bit of trouble with all the "re-captured memory" that ties up the story in the 3rd chapter. Still, this was a rip-roaring read, and I'll probably read it again, so I can savor the language and description a bit more.
review 2: I like the cadence of this book. I like the fast-paced stream of consciousness of the little flawed heroine that takes you plunging into the storyline. I'm a little curious about the targeted age range for this book. I listened to it with my 6 year old who did not pick up on the rape attempt and "sizing up" of women's bodies. Perhaps I should have r... moreead a little closer into the description. I like the weaving in of Scandinavian folk tales that my son and I are such a fan of. There's just some heart that is lacking in this story that makes it feel a little forgettable. less
