review 1: 4.5 An elegant and beautiful story about friendship. I would extend the idea of friendship and ask my students would the lion still be okay if the bird never returned? In reality, all of us have friends who are no longer our friends for a wide range of reasons. We need to show our children that that's okay - people change and grow apart. I would also use this to have students think about that reading is not just reading words (many pages have no words, illustrations only).
review 2: "The Lion and The Bird" is a picture book that tells a story through beautiful pictures and simple text. In the beginning, Lion discovers a wounded bird and decides to take care of him because his flock leaves. They spend the winter together and become friends very quickly. Unfor... moretunately, when spring comes the bird rejoins his flock and Lion is left to tend his garden all alone. However, when autumn returns and the birds fly back over Lion's garden, his friend lands on his mane and decides to stay with him throughout the winter.I really enjoyed this book because it tells a story through pictures and minimal text. This is a book that could reach any primary aged child because the emotion is conveyed through the pictures and friendship is something that every child can connect to. I would use this book when teaching children about illustrations. It is important that illustrations not only match the text, but enhance the text. This book would also be wonderful for teaching children about compassion and being a good friend. less
