review 1: Utterly unexpected, and unexpectedly charming. A Zen approach to decluttering your house revolving around a simple concept: "Does this spark joy?" If not, get rid of it; if so, keep it. Kondo's mind is unusual to say the least; she embraces (without naming it) Japanese animism, and doesn't come off as philosophical (in terms of erudition; her research is from experience and observation) but it's deeply and surprisingly philosophical. A short and delightful book, and beautifully designed.

... morerican homes, but it seemed like much of her method wasn't quite practical in a 3000-square-foot three-story four square. For a single person in an apartment, it would probably be great. That said, I still found it inspiring and will likely use her advice about deciding what to keep. less
