review 1: I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Very well written and an easy read. The author moves between past and present throughout the book which keeps the read interested in both stories. A beautiful love story interwines the 17th and 20th century while enchanting the reader to keep turning the pages to the very end. I would highly recommend this book to those who love historical novels and love stories with a hint of mystery!
review 2: I had read one of Fiorato's other books, The Botticelli Secret, before and it is one of my favourite books, so I was very excited to read this. However, although a fairly decent read, this book failed to capture me in almost any regard. ... moregue and mystery that the blurb promised didn't really materialise in the book itself.I don't believe that the split in the narrative between the past and present worked very well, and ultimately I thought that the conclusion reached by the book in the last few pages was very unlikely.I really hope that The Botticelli Secret wasn't a one off, because this was a let-down for me. less
