review 1: While in the other books of Marina Fiorato there is always something unexpected, here is repeating of the Glassblower of Murano with Dan Brown moments plus a lot of Boticelli (I know the author really loves him but WHY she writes ONLY about him... what about Leonardo Da Vinci or Michelangelo or... somebody else???).Well, the book was a huge success in Bulgaria but, like a friend of mine said, this is junk-food literature. Do not overdose, you will lose your taste!!!
review 2: I'd give this a 4.5/5 stars.Dang, this book was AWESOME. I *love* historical fiction based on paintings (hello, Tracy Chevalier), so this pretty much had the recipe of a book I was going to like. It starts out a little slow. Even when the action starts picking up, I felt like it took me a
... morebit longer to get into it than I would've guessed, but man, this book kept me on my toes. You can predict certain aspects of it, but there were so many that I didn't see coming at all. I do agree with other reviews that say that some of the language seems out of place, particularly the swearing. The main character is a prostitute, so I understand that she wouldn't speak like nobility, but swearing in English just seemed weird. I would've found it more believable if she had used Italian swear words in italics or something, but that's just a personal preference. This book had me up until the last page. I thoroughly enjoyed it, and would highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys historical fiction. less
