review 1: Once more, this TPB collection is pretty inconsistent, a matter not altogether helped by the different artists (Noto's art, while not bad, seems worse when placed so directly in contrast against Takeda's gorgeous work). A carefree if absurd inter-dimensional fluff story involving space travel and dragons (well, just one dragon) serves as the backdrop for some attention to the fragile relationship between Hellion and Laura, and it's the conclusion of that arc where this book actually gets interesting. Laura's past as a prostitute is brought up as a lead-in to the Avengers Academy book that followed this series' cancellation, and the actions that cause that link are some of the most typical X-23 moments in the book (that's a good thing). I for one didn't understand the funct... moreion of issue #21 (the final issue) at all, but maybe I'm just not artsy enough to appreciate a story told with absolutely no dialogue. As a conclusion to X-23's eponymous run, I found it rather lackluster. All in all I'd call this the weakest leg of Liu's run and the worst collection of the three TPBs, but a few standout moments and Takeda's art make it worth picking up if you've been following Laura this far.
review 2: This was a near-perfect blend of crack (X babysits for Franklin & Valeria Richards and the kids build a portal to a dragon world) and ~feelings~ (Julian, Remy, Logan, Jubilee, FEELINGS). Also I'm so stoked for Laura to join Avengers Academyyyyyy! Also the art is pretty.Also I was bummed that Laura and Natasha only interacted for like four panels. I would like for Laura to grow up and be an Avenger and be besties with Nat please. less
