review 1: I found this book by accident, while browsing in the excellent Austin, Texas, bookstore BookPeople. Attracted first by the Eiffel Tower on the cover, then by little bits of text I found as I leafed through it, I started seriously reading it over the weekend, and found I couldn't put it down until the very last page.Here are some of the reasons I think it is special: he gets the atmosphere of Paris just right, even the continual "You speak very good French -- for an American" from an assortment of Parisians. His plots are just complicated enough to braid themselves through the story, without being overwhelming. His characters are attractive (the good guys) and very nasty (the bad guys). His protaganist, Hugh, is believable and pleasant without being a superhero, while his ... moresidekick, Tom, is wonderfully profane. Now that I have finished this book, I'm ready for the next, and the next, and the next, and I hope Hugh stays in Paris -- but I could follow him elsewhere if I really had to!
review 2: Quando vi este livro, fiquei bastante curiosa, desejosa de o ler, confesso, mas por outro lado, tive medo, que tivesse muitos factos históricos, ao ponto de perder a ação de um policial, mas fiquei bastante contente, porque de história não tem quase nada, tem apenas fatos que nos envolvem na narrativa do livro...É sempre maravilhoso aprender curiosidades, que para quem ama os livros, nem imaginava que existiam, ou existiram... Da mesma maneira, que existe quem se quer aproveitar do prazer dos livros, também á quem os defenda com todo o fervor...E é assim , que o escritor, nos proporciona momentos de leitura com uma fluidez maravilhosa... less
