The Book Thief is the fifth novel, written by Australian writer Markus Zusak. The book received a Printz Honor and was filmed.
Liesel Meminger – a nine-year-old girl is the main character of the book. She is adopted by Hubermann family, who lives in a small German town. Hans Hubermann, the father, is a gentle, kind man, a good accordionist, who loves the girl and teaches her to read.The novel describes the World War II in Germany, the persecution of Jews by Nazi, hiding the Jewish man, son of a Hubermann’s old friend, in the basement and too much of thievery. Despite everything what is happening, the girl goes to school, she has a good friend Rudy, who falls in love with her, and she has her books and a tender heart.
