Lake District Mystery
review 1: I haven't read any of the others in this series so I came to it blind. Surprisingly, considering there are multiple and grisly murders, infidelity, domestic violence, and romantic break ups, it is a bit uneventful. Well at least not particularly scary or heart rending. Surprising really! I am not saying I didn't enjoy it but I think I expected a bit more of everything- horror, fright etc. and I guessed the murderer well before the end. It is still an ok read, and whiles away a few hours so enjoy!
review 2: Daniel Kind and his sister are invited to a Halloween party in a remote part of the Lakes District, where the ghost of a murdered woman is said to walk. In fact, two women were murdered there on Halloween night--in the same way--over 90 years apart. In
... more both cases, the murderer died immediately after, and no investigation was needed. The murderer also seems apparent when a third woman dies after the party, but since he's still alive, the police must investigate. Hannah Scarlett, head of the Cold Case Review Team, cannot be involved, for a variety of reasons including her complex relationship with Daniel's family, and the cost-cutting initiatives by the Cumbria police, but she is deeply shaken by the crime. If you're just starting this series, start at the beginning--this is more or less intelligible as a start, but if you read the earlier ones, which is no penance, they're all wonderful, this one will be deeper and richer. less

Disappointing. Too much padding and not enough on actual story. An OK read but a bit weak
