review 1: I really enjoyed reading this book. The author uses images and characters that are appealing to children and the rhyming words were fun to read. The illustrations really helped the story and brought life to the characters in the text. It puts a fun perspective on families and different relationships that children may or may not understand. It shows children that every type of relationship is different but that in each relationship there are people/objects that care for and compliment each other. In the classroom you could use this book to get to know your children and learn about their unique families and where they come from as well as how they see relationships in their world. The book shows relationships between cousins, parents, grandparents, and even brother and sister... more. Most, if not all, of these the children will be able to connect with and it would make for a fun discussion or craft time creating their own representation of their family.
review 2: More than just a book about the people that make up a family (which I expected) is a story that appeals to the OCD who wants to classify everything (guilty as charged). This introduces the concepts of all different kinds of families in a taxonomic kind of way. Some of it is silly and fun, a lot of it is interesting and gives a child a new math and science concept to play with while finding out about families. Good book! less
