review 1: Hmm, I don't know, but I didn't enjoy this story as much as I usually enjoy Mary Balog's stories. First I didn't get the title, I know I was more then half way in, before the meaning of the title came through. There was so much like/dislike between these two, and to have Edward no be a very good dancer, and the whole ton ritual, of meeting again, and again at the various parties.How everyone constantly comented on how dull he was, and what an airhead Angline was. The clever attraction that I am used to was missing from Edward & Angeline, but it was evident in Charles & Eunice tho.

At first I was unsure about Heyward, but as we saw his character develop I came to admire him, if not to entirely like him.General Analysis? - i definitely preferred this one to the first in the Mistress trilogy. I just felt that it had more emotional depth and there was more to explore because of that. It truly explored live and how pressured women felt to marry of their class rather than for personal gratification.Recommended? - Yes, a great read. less
