review 1: I read The Temporary Wife, on July 13, just before leaving on holiday, and have now picked the book up again to read the second novel in this edition. I enjoyed both very much, but felt the first was a more traditional type of tale. A Promise of Spring, like the sown seeds gradually developing unseen beneath the surface of the earth, seems at times to be surprisingly flat and without a story, and yet the slow process proceeds, until at the end the reader can reap the harvest. (sorry if this has anyone gnashing their teeth... given the story I found it impossible to resist this analogy). I remain a faithful Balogh fan.
review 2: This review is just for The Temporary Wife. I really like how Anthony (Marquess of Staunton, now Duke of Withingsby) changed and grew
... morewith his wife Charity Duncan. Although Charity is not a highborn she has the manners of a gentile woman and was a governess. Anthony thought to anger his father by marrying Charity who is below his station but it was Charity who helped reconciled the rift between the father and son just before his father died. Anthony's cold heart started to thaw with Charity's laughter and perseverance and her view on life. Great couple!! less
