review 1: Too straightforward, with far too many p.o.v.'s, very little buildup, and a lackluster romance that felt like an afterthought. It would have worked better as a straight-up suspense (even though the suspense aspect was also not-so-great) but the romance felt like a grab for readers and not a genuine part of the story. Blech, blech, and more blech. I'm glad I checked my library and borrowed a copy, instead of buying this when it was on sale.
review 2: i really enjoyed the story. It was action packed and I thought that it was very realistic. Although Lara has no memory of the assault that took place years before, she has experienced trauma and has very realistic reactions, including her lack of trust in the police, due to how she was treated. Beck is a serious law
... more officer and he behaves like one, he doesn't bring her into the investigation as a co-investigator, and even at the initial meeting he reacts in a realistic manner to having Lara point a gun at him. less
