review 1: I think this is only the second thing I've ever read by Mary Calmes. The first being a DNF. But this one? It fucking worked for me on all levels. Athlete kink, check. Cocky swagger, check. Friends to lovers, check. UST, check. Hot sex, check. And all in a tightly written story that could have taken her a full novel to tell, but works just as it is. Only problem with the length is that I can't get this in paperback and this is a story I want to hold in my hands and read over and over again.
review 2: I feel bad saying this, because I generally adore Mary Calmes, but this was sort of...sucky. Maybe with more length to actually show the story instead of a huge around-20-year-speed-info-dump-thing and...no probably not because it kind of reminds me of the 'A Matte... morer of Time' series, which is not a good thing as I pretty much despised Sam and Jory kind of irritated me after a while (probably because he kept taking Sam back). Same here (Varro was pretty much just selfish and disgusting and Brian was sort of passive-aggressive wimpy and I really wanted him to call the family out when he felt like he was shoved to the back because he wasn't their real child, that would have been an interesting scene) but with the added non-joy of having way too little story and way more info on bike racing than a story this short needed.
