review 1: I have a special affection for authors who can make me laugh and fall in love at the same time and Mary Connealy does just that. The Husband Tree had me hooked from the first line and continued to pull me in page after page. I love the characters, the setting, felt like I was riding alongside them, and better still felt like I was Belle, well, I want to be Belle. If you love romance with humor, handsome cowboys, both sweet moments and living the story through the characters, The Husband Tree is a great read. It's one of four books that is ALWAYS in my book back, ready to go and be re-read again and again.I loved the struggles Belle endured and how she remained a strong but vulnerable woman, and how she worked to raise her daughters to be strong and independent.I would and d... moreo, highly recommend The Husband Tree for anyone's reading list. It's a must read and re-read for me!
review 2: The Husband Tree - Mary ConnealyFor those you have yet to read this novel:This was an amazing book! Mary has, as usual, exceeded my highest expectations. The characters were well-portrayed and expertly written. I connected instantly with the characters and constantly found myself experiencing their emotions with them.Their circumstances and actions were realistic and fit into the western scene perfectly. My emotions were topsy-turvy throughout this novel. I felt their hurt, their joy, their pain, their excitement. I laughed and I cried, those those two should go together because the reason I was crying was because I was laughed so hard. It did have sad parts but not enough to make me cry actual sad tears. Please read this heart-pounding, knee-buckling novel! it's definitely worth your while. As the last sentence in the novel goes: "Before she left, Belle patted the Husband Tree good-bye and good riddance."Only read the following if you have already read this book!(*SPOILER ALERT!!!*)Aaaaaahhh!!! What happened to poor Wade?! Does he not go after Glowing Sun?! Does she marry Wild Owl, or Hawk, or Eagle, whatever his name was?! She can't marry him! He's kinda creepy and she and Wade are in love with each other! I can't wait to read the next book to see what happens!Wade was good. He was kind and sweet and no longer living in fear and hatred. He was so nice, and gentle, and protective of Glowing Sun. They'd be so perfect together. He wasn't a coward in any way, shape, or form. He was constantly proving himself a man - ready to kill to protect Glowing Sun even though it'd forever scar his conscience, repeatedly stepping between her and danger. He was awesome. Hmm. Wonder what his father would think of Glowing Sun.She was sweet, and strong, and wonderful. Glowing Sun was fierce and wild, yet at the same time, gentle and innocent. She was a great character. I don't see how she thinks she can live with whatshisname (Indian dude she's promised to). I can see her at her wedding and she just can't force herself to say "I do". Then she cries and explains to Wild Bird. He's mad but he understands and reluctantly lets her go. Either that or they do marry and glowing Sun is unhappy. Then her husband dies and she meets Wade again years later. I hope it's the first one, though I think it'll end up being more like the second one.Belle. Have you ever seen - er... read about - a stronger woman? She was so fearless, and stubborn, and fierce. And sweet, and gentle, and kind. That's sad how she thought Silas was just like her earlier no-account husbands. She nearly made me cry, even though I knew pure well he wasn't. I can hardly believe she said all those things in the end. I don't think I would've been able to do that. If she'd known what Silas was thinking when she was saying all that stuff, I'm pretty sure she wouldn't have said it.Silas was so annoying in that scene. From Belle's view I can see why she said it - she needed his love and she'd say just about anything (as was proven) for the stubborn mule to get it. Silas, on the other hand, was having fun. That was irritating! Oh, but when the girls were calling him by his first name and treating him like he didn't care... That was so sad! His hurt at them for not trusting him nearly broke my heart as well as his.Lindsay was sweet, and sincere, and strong. I can't believe she got married at fifteen! (Didn't expect that.) Goodness, that's young! She sure seemed mature enough though. And Roy was a sweetheart. They'll be great together. Rephrase: They are great together.Emma was capable, and calm, and kind. She so liked Silas. I wonder what she was thinking when he seemingly ended up being "just like all the others".Sarah was a sweetie. She was young and talented. She seemed to be the most feminine out of the whole lot of them. Probably 'cuz she cooked and watched the baby.Betsy was so totally adorable. Her gentle babiness and innocent understanding was completely endearing.Buck and Shorty were great too. That would be great if there was another series about Belle's remaining daughters. Emma, Sarah, and Betsy. I'd like to read their romances. The characters were wonderful, and realistic, and true-to-life. Their struggles and emotions were real. So real in fact that I have to get to the next book before I die of curiosity. less
