review 1: You can't end the series here! There has to be another book!I will try not to spoil, but although there were some faults (I'm not sure there's enough character development for the newest Stravagante who has a much more complex story than the others) this ended on such a cliffhanger. Okay, there was a degree of resolution surrounding our favourites, but then a huge plot development that will rock Talia, and to a lesser extent Islington.I neeeed more!
review 2: Not the greatest book in the series so far, but definitely worth the read. City of Masks has and always will have a special place in my heart as far as this series goes, but despite that there were a few let-downs with this particular one. One is how Julia, who plays a massive role in Laura's problems whi... morech brought her to Talia in the first place, has such a minor role in things in the end. It seems to me that Laura's problems aren't really addressed or resolved, neither through Talia nor through her real world, aka. her parents and the psychiatrist. My other concern were the other Stravaganzi from the real world didn't seem to play roles that matched their character developments from the other books, barring Luciano and Nick...and maybe Georgia. I'm a bit tentative about George though, as her role was better defined in some of the other books.I'm also hoping Ludo is explored more in the next book, as his reasons for challenging the throne still didn't come out as particularly clear in my view.The parts I did enjoy? Georgia's picture cropping up again and turning into a talisman for Mortimer - who hadn't even known he'd been selling talismans up to that point. The idea of the over-arching plot was strong in this book as well. Laura's role in Talia was an interesting one as well...and the wedding! And Vicky coming to it too! My favourite bits, especially the death at the wedding where it ended. less
