review 1: While overall I enjoyed the plot, this book felt rushed. The previous books go into what it's like going to Talia the first time. This book pretty much skips over that, never mind that it's a new character and a new city. All of the new characters felt underdeveloped. There were so many places where the author could have gone into a bit more detail and let us get to know the characters a bit better. There were also too many viewpoints. Sometime, the point of view would even switch mid paragraph. The cameos by characters from previous books also felt poorly managed. I read the other books long enough ago that I don't remember who most of those characters are. A little more detail would have been nice. So, a nice story that really needed a bit more to make it a great s... moretory.
review 2: So...I liked this book all right and I don't know if it's indeed the final volume (initially this one should be a trilogy, but I'm not complaining). Laura was likable enough and a lot of action and romance happened here.Anyway, I have main issues with the saga and with this book as well.As for the saga, I really don't know how to put this because it's entertaining and well written, but I think I've had enough of it. It's Always the same pattern about stravation, unhappy teenager picks an object that drags him/her to the alternate Renaissance world of Talia and accomplishes a mission- still sometimes things become too violent and messy. How are we supposed to believe this is a fantastic adventure - and Nick's parents and Mr Goldsmith think it's a beautiful thing, too- where it's so Dangerous and all the main characters risked to be killed several times? And Luciano is definitely a troublemaker, while Arianna is still more spoilt, impetuos and emotional as time passes. The author takes too much time to write it: I mean, if there are really 12 books planned, shouldn't it be better to have at least a book a year published? No way, the first book came out in 2002, the last in 2012 and we still don't know if there will be another book. I was 14 as I began it and 25 now, and of course I don't think I'll enjoy this teen drama as much as I will be in my 30s when the saga will end- if it will.As for this book, Laura's story didn't have much depth and some romance parts - Luciano ad Arianna, Laura and the manoush- were definitely too rushed.Things I liked: the awful Rinaldo is killed in the end. Luciano and Arianna finally get married and Vicky, Luciano's mother, witnesses it.Finally Falco says it clear that he doesn't want Luciano around stealing his life- I like Falco better and I really don't understand why all these people are fussing about Luciano, does he really deserve it?The spotted cats are awesome. The 'traslation' meaning that perhaps there will be another time shift and that stravagating is no more safe, so Luciano and Falco will probably enjoy their respective lives without interferences.Georgia is Always so great, good and strong willed and Isabel is likable, too. So a favourable rate but with some flaws nonetheless. less
