review 1: I thought this book taught teen girls good lessons about friendship, boys, and family. The main character, Libby, was changing herself to be with a boy little did she know that she was destroying her friendship with her best friend just to be with a boy. Though Libby knew she would never get in the back of her mind. Libby ruined her friendship and later had to move because of her parents. The odd thing about moving was she would move in with her grandmother that she never knew existed before. She really get involved with her long lost grandmother and learns lessons about life and how she doesn’t have to change for anybody to jeopardize friendships with people that love her the most. At the end of the book Libby get a serious kiss with a boy, because she took her g... morerandmother’s advice.
review 2: Libby is just an ordinary high school girl...with a problem. Actually, several problems. The title comes from a pact Libby makes with her friend, Nadine, to have a "serious kiss" before the year is over. Poor Libby's got her sights set on Zack Nash, but unfortunately, he's taken. And then, just when it finally looks like she might get that kiss, Libby finds out that her family is moving to the middle of nowhere.This book deals with many important issues like alcoholism, poverty, schools in poor districts, and criminal activity. When Libby moves into a trailer park-cum-retirement home, she begins to realize how superficial some of her "problems" really are. The fat best friend doesn't have to be a shy doormat; high school romance doesn't usually last forever; and enabling can sometimes be as bad as participating in crime yourself. Despite the seriousness of the subject matter, I feel that this book really provides a good message for young girls. Much better than the more typical "love will find a way" message, anyway. less
