review 1: Cassie feels like her whole entire life is falling apart. She just wants things back to the way they were before. She wants Sef back from Iraq, she wants Sonia back, and she wants to get to know Rob. So many things get in Cassie’s way, like when she sees her mom and Sonia’s dad, when Sef’s tour is extended, and when Jack acts up in front of Rob. Cassie learns to appreciate change, and that she’s changed to. This is a story about coming of age, family, and family loyalty.
review 2: Cassie's brother, Sef, is headed to Iraq and she doesn't know if she will survive without him. After he leaves everything in her family seems to change. Her mom can't cope, her dad says things will get better, her sister Van starts drinking, and her special needs brother Jac... morek stops talking. Along the way her social studies teacher decides that the students should find a blog written by someone from another country. Cassie finds a blog by a 13 year old girl who calls herself, "Blue Sky". As Cassie and her family begin to deal with Sef's absence, she also interacts with Blue Sky, giving her a glimpse into the other side of the war. I will say that overall the writing was great. It was very realistic, eye opening, and heartfelt, but the ending left me wanting more. less
